64 rows · Richard Benjamin Haymes (September 13, 1918 – March 28, 1980), known as Dick Haymes, was an Argentinean-born actor and singer, active in the United States.He was one of the most popular male vocalists of the 1940s and early 1950s.He was the older brother of Bob Haymes who was an actor, television host, and songwriter. Dick Haymes was one of the most splendid ballad singers of his era, the near-equal of Crosby and Sinatra on classics of the form like "It Can't Be Wrong," "Till the End of Time," and "It Might as Well Be Spring." Though he was unable to cash in during the '50s golden era of adult pop (due to alcoholism, troubles with the government, and a few tempestuous relationships), Haymes continued.
